Autumn Watch

BBC Autumnwatch returns this year to its Springwatch home in the National Trust Sherborne Park Estate in Gloucestershire.

For the first time, presenters Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Martin Hughes-Games will return to the Cotswold countryside to host the Autumn wildlife television programme at the end of October.

The four day series is one of the UK’s largest live outdoor broadcasts bringing viewers the best and the very latest Autumnal wildlife action.

You can also expect the return of some familiar characters from Springwatch 2017, including the beautiful family of Barn Owls and Kestrels which were left just ahead of the fledgling season back in June.

National Trust Sherborne Park Estate and Reserve, Gloucestershire

Filming in the popular Sherborne Park Estate and Reserve, the team will broadcast for four days starting from the 23rd October.

The 4000-acre estate is situated in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside and is made up of protected farmland, ancient water meadows, historic oak parkland and riverbanks - a unique and complex natural environment.

Featured animals

Autumnwatch will feature some rare wildlife wonders this season. The striking European bee-eater will make an appearance after their unexpected return to the UK this summer. We’ll also see some rare farmland birds including the corn bunting, a red listed, heavy-looking brown coloured bunting with a thick and distinct yellow bill.

We can expect secret footage of the ever-illusive badger, and we can also hope to catch a glimpse of the fallow deer in rutting season. The announcement of new infrared water cameras also means that we’ll get a look at the unique water wildlife in and around the river banks of the Sherborne Brook and the River Windrush. The programme schedule - as always - will be kept a surprise for viewers.
