The Fastest Birds in The World

Birds can fly at impressive speeds – but some are much faster than others. The Garden Wildlife Direct team have explored which birds are the fastest in the world.

Fastest Birds

The fastest birds in the world are:

  1. Peregrine Falcon – 247mph
  2. Golden Eagle – 200mph
  3. Saker Falcon – 199mph

Both the Golden Eagle and the Peregrine Falcon are faster than the world’s fastest rollercoaster – impressive, right? Other speedy birds include the Gyrfalcon, White-throated Needletail and the Common Swift, which are all faster than the fastest cheetah (over 80mph).

Fastest Garden Birds

But what about common garden birds? Although they can’t reach rollercoaster or cheetah speeds, they can still be quite quick. House Sparrows, for example, can hit 17 – 24 miles per hour, and Mallards can fly up to 39mph.

Our infographic covers more of the world’s fastest (and slowest) birds – take a look.
